Qualitative Description of Camera Motion and Scene Depth from Histograms of Normal Flow 1

چکیده
If we histogram the normal ow vectors in images of a scene viewed by a moving observer, we can use the time-varying histogram to derive qualitative information about the observer's motion|for example, whether it is (primarily) translational or rotational, and whether the direction of translation or axis of rotation is (roughly) parallel or perpendicular to the camera axis. This is illustrated using ow histograms obtained from a variety of real image sequences. If the motion is translational, qualitative information about the scene depth can also be obtained from the ow histograms|for example, whether the scene depth is unimodal or bimodal. This is illustrated for real scenes containing a layer of vegetation seen against a textured background, or two layers of vegetation.

Depth Recovery from Unsynchronized Video Streams
Dynamic depth recovery from unsynchronized video streams is an open problem. In this paper, we propose a novel framework for estimating dense depth information of dynamic scenes using multiple video streams captured from unsynchronized stationary cameras. The main idea is to convert the unsynchronized depth computation problem to the traditional synchronized depth computation problem in which m...
متن کاملDynamic Depth Recovery from Unsynchronized Video Streams
In this paper, we propose an algorithm for estimating dense depth information of dynamic scenes from multiple video streams captured using unsynchronized stationary cameras. We solve this problem by first imposing two assumptions about the scene motion and the temporal offset between cameras. The motion of a scene is described using a local constant velocity model and the camera temporal offset...
متن کاملDepth and Scene Flow from a Single Moving Camera
We show that it is possible to reconstruct scene flow and depth from a single moving camera whose motion is known. To do so, we assume that the local scene motion can be approximated by a constant velocity in a small temporal window. This assumption makes it possible to unambiguously reconstruct scene flow and depth using as few as 3 frames from the sequence. We propose a variational approach t...
متن کاملObtaining Range from Visual Motion Using Local Image Derivatives
INTRODUCTION In many robotic and remote operation applications, depth (or range) information at various points in the scene is required. These include autonomous navigation, landing site selection, scene reconstruction, or postprocessing interpretation of video footage. Theoretically, depth, motion, and optical flow (generated by the relative movement between the camera and scene) are three par...
متن کاملScene Flow from Depth and Color Images
In this paper we consider the problem of estimating a 3D motion field using multiple cameras. In particular, we focus on the situation where a depth camera and one or more color cameras are available, a common situation with recent composite sensors such as the Kinect. In this case, geometric information from depth maps can be combined with intensity variations in color images in order to estim...
